Costa Rica
1.Information requirement on Bill of Lading ·Full style of consignee information and/or notify party for Costa Rican company
·Full description of cargo which must include:
Number of packages
Type of packing
Different types of packages must be specified and quantified. The total packages must match all counts
Common, technical and/or commercial names of products
Total gross and net weights
·All Bill Of Lading and manifests must be fully freight with clear breakdown of charges Documents which do not fulfill above minimum requirements liable to generate fines starting at USD100 per bill of lading and up to USD 500 as per current legislation 2.Cargo Acceptance Hazardous cargo
·Acceptable
·72 hours before vessel arrival pre declaration is required for any hazardous cargos destined to Costa Rica or in transit via ship or quay.
·Dangerous Cargo Manifest, Bs/L and copy of stowage plan showing position (BAROTI) of said container on board should be submitted to Costa Rica Agent
Spare part to vessels
·Acceptable with pre-advice
·Case by case handle and need to approved by operations management
3. Weight Limitation on Road
·24 metric tons payload for both 20’ and 40’ equipment plus container tare.
·Previous consultant with San Jose Office for weight exceed cases
·Extra costs or fines associated to payload in excess of 24 metric tons for the account of the line when intermodal bills of lading involved
4.Documentation data transmission to Customs and Port Authorities
·Bill of Lading information complete electronic transmission 48 hours before vessel arrival
·For short transit, Customs accept a transmission deadline equivalent to the transit from the port of loading
·Undeclared/overlanded cargo subject to fines and confiscation by Customs
·A posteriori inclusion and declaration of same in the manifest, a letter from Port Of loading is required to declare the unintentional omission. This letter is consularized at the nearest Costarrican Consulate and then ratified in Costa Rica foreign ministry
·Empty container is required to be manifested
·Data transmission deadline and condition are applied to Transshipment Cargoes
5.Manifest Correction
·Apply the same deadline and condition as data transmission
·Pre approval to change payment term from prepaid to collect in Costa Rica
Remarks: All documentation related matters must be sent/addressed to .San Jose office email/addresses.
6. Freight Collection
·Previous confirmation with POD Agency for each and every freight need to be collected in Costa Rica.
Important Remarks: in Costa Rica, all cargoes are released upon payment of import duties/taxes and against presentation of Original Bs/L by Customs Authorities. Freight settlement is not mandatory for Customs to release cargo. Strict adhere freight collection procedure is very important, especially for Freight Forwarder or NVOCC shipments. It is impossible to withhold cargoes for any prepaid shipments unless the OBs/L are under POD or POL agencies’ procession, this regards to direct shippers/importers. In case of Forwarder or NVOCC, as they have transmitted their own HBs/L to Customs, it is impossible to slow down or withhold cargoes even if OBs/L are in POD/POD agencies’ possession 7.Express Release

8.Container staying time
·Up to 180 days granted by local Government authorities to steamship line. br /> ·USD500 per box per day applied over 180 days
180 days count from day of discharge until the day the box is still empty in the country (INS016/2007)
